Impact of Snow Days
State regulations require each public school to have 1,116 hours of instructional time. The four snow days in February reduced the amount of instructional time in the current school year, leaving two of Hesston's three schools with less than the required number of hours.
At its March 11 meeting, the USD 460 board of education approved the following changes to the schedules of Hesston Elementary and Hesston High schools.
ES - 8:00 a.m. start time, March 25-April 30 HS - Hold classes on April 22, afternoon of May 22 and 8:05 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on May 23
The schedule of Hesston Middle School is not affected.

The Kansas State Department of Education (KSDE) has recognized USD 460 as a district achieving the highest level of determination in compliance with special education accountability and reporting requirements.
Below is information from the KSDE web site regarding the recent initiative: "As a result of the reauthorization of IDEA 2004, increased accountability at the state and local level and changes in the Office of Special Education Programs' (OSEP) monitoring priorities, Kansas has shifted from a Focused Monitoring System to an Integrated Accountability System. The Kansas Integrated Accountability System is in alignment with IDEA 2004 and General Supervision requirements as outlined by the OSEP and Kansas Special Education Statutes. The shift to the Kansas Integrated Accountability System results in a continuous monitoring cycle involving data collection, verification, reporting, and improvement activities by both the State and LEAs. The system will ensure both state level and individual district compliance with the federal special education requirements and monitor those areas most closely associated with improved academic achievement results for children and youth with exceptionalities."
